i'm preaching on sunday evening; the passage is john 14: 8-14 (or here for the message version) and the theme 'certainty' - am suffering from brain lockdown... any suggestions?
I would have gone more for the being IN CHRIST concept - whatever you ask for in my name not meaning just "Dear Jesus, please make me win the lottery..." but when we see with the eyes of Christ and pray with the words of Christ, deeply, selflessly.
Also bylooking through the eyes of Christ we SEE the Father and what the Father wants us to do etc.
You could certainly tie in the grace not works business here too with verse 12 - we don't do good works so God will love us but because he does, not as a requirement but as a natural response to his grace.
Yeah it was good, lots of children there which I didn't expect so I had to liven things up a bit at the last minute. I found a lot of inspiriration from good old Tony Campolo - and the youth leader now wants some teaching resources for the young people about living in Christ and looking at the world through Christ's eyes, so I think it made an impression.
Thanks for your help, it made planning much easier!!

Cool!
I've got a preaching gig next week and when I asked what the topic was my mate (another Pete) said those terrifying words...
"pick whatever you want!"
Aaaagh!
