Imagining Christ

on the first day of the conference tony campolo challenged each of us to try to live within the imagination of Christ, (i did take notes, but today they make no sense whatsoever). the basic idea, i think, was that rather than recreating Christ in our own image as we have a habit of doing, is to instead let our imagination be filled with Christ's view of the world. futher, that to spend our lives trying to find Bible verses that mark out the boundaries between what we should and shouldn't be doing is little more than legalism, instead the call is to look at the world through Christ's eyes, to trust that as Christians Christ inhabits us entirely and therefore can guide our steps more fully. "...we have the mind of Christ" (1 Cor. 2 v.16 niv) "God's Spirit and our spirits in open communion" (1 Cor. 2 v.14 msg)

i'm trying to work this through, or more importantly trying to take it on board, particularly the challenge from campolo to spend time looking at the world through Christ's eyes. to be honest it is a bit too painful... my view and his seem so different... hmmm

got to go to halfords now, but i'll comtinue this thought later - did anyone else pick up more from that first talk, i'd love to see any notes that may be around. ta :-)

  • I have just posted my understanding of my notes (on Tony's first talk), but I think I prefer your interpretation to mine!
