clarkson

i'm quite keen on jeremy clarkson. i like the way that he, a little like jonathan ross, isn't afraid to flirt with unpolitical-correctness in order to get his point across. he seems to be openly non-religious which maybe is a pity, but this quote from his book 'the world according to clarkson' was quite interesting as a complete outsider's take on the problem with the church. he's writing an article about the lottery and all of the rubbish stuff it gives money to, one of which he claims is towards restoring church buildings (wasn't aware of this myself) he writes;

"why is lottery money being used to restore churches? the church is richer than royalty. it's even richer, i'm told, than jonathan ross. if it needs a few bob to replaster a nave or two it should think about bringing in bigger audiences. and if it can't put bums on seats, it should think about packing up."

i'm intrigued by the reference to church being 'rich' try telling that to my diocese - and we're one of the wealthiest! but his synopsis of the plight of the church seems to be a good one - all we need to do is 'bring in bigger audiences'. ok so screw the theological argument for a moment, i know that we need to get outside the church, i know that audiences gives the wrong impression when you're trying to refer to disciples blah blah blah, but at the root i think he's struck gold. we need to stop faffing about and just get on with attracting people, seeing more people become christians... simple really... don't know why no-one thought of it before...

now i'm sure that this isn't an original whinge but, please, for heavens sake!! when i was at school i got the crap beaten out of me on a regular occasion because my mum couldn't afford to buy me nike trainers and instead i had to wear these crappy £5 dunlop green flash pieces of crap. and now i find them in a top class shoe shop in bristol for £44.99... i'm very bitter about this! basically i was being beaten up on a regular occasion for having such incredible fashion forsight. would you believe it, i am a trend setter, yay!

i now wear nike trainers incidently, which rather than making me cool has made me a chav. you just can't win :-(

job prob

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
are you allowed to slag off your new employer before you've started the job? oh well here goes...

over 2 months ago I went for interview for a new job with a local council, to run a youth centre that has been shut for over a year due to lack of staffing. i got the job (yay!) and was told that i would start early to mid august, dependant on references and crb check etc. now, 2 months later they have just (literally the last few days) sent out for references,and brought me in to fill in my crb form. for f*ck's sake, how utterly ridiculous can you get, especially as the week after i got the job i drove half way to london to hand in my stuff for the check and was told i would have to get someone else to see it, what's more when i took the stuff in last week, the person who was meant to check it wasn't there and i had to get it checked by someone who didn't know how to do the form and was going to have to get someone else to do it, at the other end of the county. £100 says that i'll wait the 6-8 weeks that a crb check takes and then discover that the form never even got sent off. man it drives you crazy - especially as the particular local council (in fact most councils as far as i know) are desperate for youth workers... aaaaaaaaargh!

all better now.

thanks for listening.
